Broncos Champ Bailey Retires His NLF Cleats After 15 Seasons
Undoubtedly the finest NLF defender this year, Champ Bailey has hanged his NLF boots for other feats. Bailey did not give reasons why he opted to retire. The defensive player best skills were blanketing coverage and ball-hawking skills. These were at peak in 2006.
Champ Bailey Retirement was a surprise though. It came when a handful of big teams were after him signaling Bailey indeed had made a name for himself. His career was most likely to go a notch better.
Bailey's agent Jack Reale spoke to NLF Tuesday about his client's retirement. Jack Reale told NLF that Champ Bailey was pursuing other unspecified career opportunities.
According to Bailey, every professional athlete knows when to quit. A career must end, and one should make his exit before then. This allows one to go into another phase of life, he said in a statement realeased on NLF outlets.
He thanked his supporters besides making it clear that the decision to retire came after a great deal of thinking. This dispelled fears that he may have been instinctive.
Bailey's retirement statement was published by Broncos. He played for both Broncos and Redskins. He made 207 starts in 15 seasons. He became a favorite NLF name in 1999 when he was made the No. 7 overall pick.
Pundits say Champ Bailey is a likely for the Hall of fame for his 207 starts in 15 seasons, and a 12 pro bowl, all a rare stint in most NLF athlete's careers.
He suffered an injury last summer leading to his release in August. He has been described as a great team leader, a silent and dignified leader who made a positive impression to both players and managers.
Broncos reacted to Champ Baileys retirement sentimentally recalling his time with them as awesome. Broncos General Manager John Elway described Bailey as a pillar of organization and a source of unity in the team.
