Craig Wayne Boyd and Carrie Underwood Flood the Country Charts with Gospel Tunes

Two songs on Billboard's Hot Country Song Chart this week speak explicitly about the Gospel of Jesus. The first blasting in at #7 is Craig Wayne Boyd's rendition of the hymn "The Old Rugged Cross." Craig Wayne Boyd is the newly-crowned seventh-season winner of NBC's The Voice. Now sitting at the #2 position for a second week is the other song on the chart that explicitly speaks of God's saving work through Christ, Carrie Underwood's "Something in the Water."
Boyd's "The Old Rugged Cross," which makes its first appearance on Hot Country Songs, also bows atop Country Digital Songs (65,000 downloads sold). Boyd performed both songs on the Dec. 8 Voice episode. "Blues" bows at No. 19 on Country Digital Songs (12,000 sold).
Carrie Underwood also storms Billboard's Top Country Albums chart with Greatest Hits: Decade #1, which arrives at No. 1 with 94,000 sold, according to Nielsen Music. The set marks her record-tying fifth consecutive No. 1 bow of five career releases. Underwood starts at the only place she's ever known on Top Country Albums. Her four prior No. 1 launches: her debut album Some Hearts (2005), Carnival Ride(2007), Play On (2009) and Blown Away (2012).
