Merle Haggard's Health Still Needs Prayers as He Cancels All February Tour Dates

Country music veteran Merle Haggard's health has been like a yo-yo. Within the last couple of months, he has cancelled three shows. After a report has been sent that Haggard has been recovering from his bout with pneumonia, now Haggard has a health setback again. He has canceled the remainder of his tour dates in February. The performances include a Feb. 3 show with Kris Kristofferson in Beverly Hills and five additional dates.
"He is still feeling weak from his recent struggle with double pneumonia and has decided to seek further treatment for it," publicist Tresa Redburn says in a statement, according to CMT. "Merle is hopeful he will be back on the road later in the spring."
Haggard calls himself a walking miracle and credits God for keeping him healthy. Now, he calls fans to continue to pray for him. Haggard's health took a downward spiral in in December when he was hospitalized for double pneumonia. Haggard posted a photo apologizing for having to cancel, saying "Thank you to the fans who came out tonight in Riverside! Sadly I'm just not strong enough yet."
The singer explained the severity of his illness to Rolling Stone Country when he was hospitalized.
"I had a double case of pneumonia about the size of grapefruit on each side," he said. "I had a pain that went all the way around from my belly button all the way around to my back. I asked the doctor, 'What was that pain?' He said, 'It was death.'"
In an interview with CNN, Haggard talks about his prayer life. When asked what he prays for, Haggard says: "Peace, harmony, health and the family. I pray for the children, and I pray over the food we eat. You know, our food's been contaminated. It's hard to find good water. We pray over that. And we say a prayer every now and then when we're fixing to make a record.
You probably wouldn't call us religious people if you saw us with a camera. You might not see what we're doing. Sometimes there is a prayer being mumbled under our breath. That is the way it is if someone had a reality show on us. Might be interesting."
