Wife of Randy Travis Updates Us About the Singer's Health

On Tuesday (March 29), country music veteran and commited Christian Randy Travis was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Following the announcement ceremony, Travis' wife Mary gives an update of her husband's health after his life-threatening stroke in 2013.
"There is nothing where you wake up one day and go, 'Oh, I can talk,'" Mary Davis explains (quote via Nash Country Weekly). "It's the little things - the extra word, the extra sound, the extra lap we make in rehab."
Music, Davis notes, "has been a huge part of the rehabilitation process" and "comes easier to him, as far as singing songs." Mentioning the performance of "Amazing Grace" that Travis gave at a friend's funeral in February, Davis recalls, "I don't know that he thought he was ready for it, but he sang through all four verses. It was beautiful."
At the ceremony, though Travis was to give a speech in appreciation of the honor, he was still too weak to talk. The only words Travis could utter was "thank you."
Travis' wife, Mary, took the podium to address the industry tastemakers on hand for the big announcement. In a heartfelt speech, she revealed how her husband nearly died when he had the stroke in 2013."They really said there was no hope; go ahead and pull the plug," she admits. "I went to his bedside and I said, 'Baby, you've got to give me some more fight.' And I knew that he had had a little talk with Jesus, because he squeezed my hand, and a little tear fell down," she continues, choking back tears herself. "And I knew that he wasn't through yet."
"He's a wonderful man; he's a wonderful husband," she adds. "I'm blessed beyond measure to get to walk beside him."
Travis joins Charlie Daniels and Fred Foster in the Class of 2016. Daniels is being inducted in the Veteran category, and Foster is being included in the Recording/Touring Musician category. Travis is being inducted in the category of Modern Era,
In the year 2000 and beyond, Travis shifted away from mainstream country and focused on gospel. During this time, he recorded the albums Inspirational Journey (2000), Rise and Shine (2002), and Worship & Faith (2003). The single "Three Wooden Crosses" from the Rise and Shine album reached No. 1 and won the CMA song of the year in 2003. Later, in 2005, Travis released Glory Train: Songs of Faith, Worship, and Praise followed by the Christmas album Songs of the Season in 2007,
