Randy Travis Says He's "Blessed and Thankful" to Be Named CMT Artist of a Lifetime

Country music veteran Randy Travis says he's "blessed and thankful" to be named CMT Artist of a Lifetime. Travis is the only the sixth artist to receive this honor. The Hall of Famer was named as this year's honoree on Thursday (Sept. 30). Previous CMT Artist of a Lifetime recipients are Merle Haggard, Kenny Rogers, Shania Twain, Loretta Lynn and Reba McEntire, in 2014-2019, respectively. There was no recipient in 2020, as the show changed format due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Randy Travis reflects, "I'm thrilled to announce that I've been selected as @cmt 's Artist of a Lifetime at the 2021 CMT Artists of the Year. To think you receive a Lifetime Achievement award for sharing your heart with the world through music is really beyond words of gratitude. CMT has been so good to me throughout my career and I'm happy they believe I gave something in return. I'm blessed and most thankful. Don't miss the special night as we celebrate the year in country music on Wednesday, October 13 on CMT."
The 2021 CMT Artists of the Year celebration will air live on the network on Oct. 13 at 9PM CT. Many performances and never-before-seen collaborations are promised for the show, which will take place in Nashville.
Besides being a successful country artist, Travis is not foreign to Christian music. In 1997, he recorded for Word Records, where he began recording more Christian material. Although the career shift produced only one more number-one country hit "Three Wooden Crosses", Travis went on to earn several Dove Awards, including Country Album of the Year five times.
