Lady A's Hillary Scott Almost Cut "Jesus Take the Wheel"

Lady A's Hillary Scott is no stranger to faith-based songs. In 2016, she recorded a #1 Billboard Christian album with her family entitled Love Remains. Recently, Scott revealed that she almost cut Carrie Underwood's signature hit "Jesus Take the Wheel" before Underwood had a chance to even consider the song.
Scott tells Taste of Country that she had a development deal with a label in Nashville during her pre-Lady A days. Brett James, Hillary Lindsey and Gordie Sampson wrote "Jesus, Take the Wheel," and it ended up being pitched to Scott during the period when she was listening to songs to potentially record. "It was one of my favorites," Scott confesses about the song.
Scott did not end up releasing any material from her development deal, and Underwood went on to win American Idol. She recorded and released "Jesus, Take the Wheel" as the first single from her debut album Some Hearts later that year.
"Jesus, Take the Wheel" became the first of Underwood's record-setting 15 number-one singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, spending six weeks at the number one position. The song enjoyed crossover success, peaking at number four on the Billboard Hot Christian Songs chart and charting on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. It also became a top twenty hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
"Jesus, Take the Wheel" has sold over 2.743 million copies in the United States as of February 2016 and has been certified three-times Platinum by the RIAA.
