The Leftovers Season 2 Release Date Renewal: Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrota-penned TV fantasy-drama Will Be Back Due to Overwhelming Response To Their Provocative and Original Storytelling
HBO last week announced the renewal of The Leftovers according to The Hollywood Reporter. ""We are thrilled to bring back The Leftovers for a second season with the exceptional talents of Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta. It has been truly exciting to see the overwhelming response to their provocative and original storytelling. We look forward to continuing the journey as the show delves deeper into the lives of those who remain," HBO programming President Michael Lombardo reportedly said.
The Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrota-penned TV fantasy-drama series based on Perrota's bestselling novel of the same name has so far garnered generally favorable reviews. Rotten Tomatoes' tomatometer gave it a 69% rating and proclaimed that "Its dour tone and self-seriousness may make for somber viewing, but The Leftovers is an artfully crafted, thought-provoking drama that aims high and often hits its mark."
The Leftovers stars Justin Theroux, Amy Brenneman, Chistopher Eccleston, Liv Tyler, Chris Zylka, Margaret Qualley, Carrie Coon, Emily Meade, Ann Dowd, Michael Gaston, Max Carver, Charlie Carver, and Annie Q.
The first episode of the 10-episode first season was shown on June 29th. Its finale is set to air on August 31st.
While no release date has been announced yet for the premiere episode of Season 2, The Leftovers regularly airs every Sunday nights at 10 pm on HBO.
The Leftovers takes place three years after an event called "The Sudden Departure" wherein 2% of the world population mysteriously disappeared. The story is set in Mapleton, New York. The TV series, while based on Perrota's novel, will be covering a much wider ground in the way of storytelling. As Lindelof told Vulture, "The pilot will introduce characters and storylines not in the book. It has to. The book is so rich in characters and details... and opens so many creative doors. But it probably only has enough content for two or three episodes."
