Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 Release Date, Spoilers, Latest News: Cowabunga!
The sequel to the surprise box office hit movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has already been set by Paramount Pictures for release on June 3, 2016. According to Variety, Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes will be returning again as producer along with screenwriters Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles opened August 8 already weighed down by generally unfavorable reviews from the critics. In fact, Rotten Tomatoes' site consensus says: "Neither entertaining enough to recommend nor remarkably awful, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles may bear the distinction of being the dullest movie ever made about talking bipedal reptiles." Yet, despite what the critics were saying then, it managed to earn $93.7 million during its global weekend debut. And on its second weekend, it even overtook Guardians of the Galaxy for top spot in the box office charts where it remains to this date.
While the director for the sequel hasn't been announced yet, it is a possibility that the director in the first film, Jonathan Liebesman, will also be returning to helm the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 movie. In fact, Liebsman in a talk with Screen Rant, said that if it's up to him he'd love to go into the other parts of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise lore, including the origin of TCRI (Techno Cosmic Research Industries) which is tied to Krang's home Dimension X as well as other franchise characters like Casey Jones, Bebop and Rocksteady
Megan Fox who plays reporter April O'Neale told Screen Rant in another interview that if asked to come back for the sequel, she "...would sign any contract to be a part of the movie....I'll definitely do it if they will have me. This turned out really well, way better than I could have ever hoped."
Others in the cast of Teenage Mutant Ninja Tutles, aside from Fox, include William Fichtner, Pete Ploszek, Alan Ritchson, Noel Fischer, Jeremy Howard, Danny Woodburn, Will Arnett, Johnny Knoxville, and Tony Shalhoub. Direction is by Jonathan Liebesman from a screenplay written by Josh Applebaum, Andre Nemec and Evan Dougherty.
