'Doctor Who' Series 8.8 'Mummy on the Orient Express' Review: Mystery Train Traveling in Outer Space; Is It Goodbye For Clara?
Another week, another exciting episode of "Doctor Who" - the eighth episode titled "Mummy on the Orient Express." What makes the episode rather exciting is the Orient Express that is actually traveling in space. At first glance, one may think that they're traveling back in time - old Hollywood glamour, the clothes and the people - and then viewers later see the outer space. Then of course the Doctor and Clara rides the train - both intrigued about what happened in the train earlier.
The plot for the story is a break for viewers. The view of a train traveling in space offers new insight to the series because instead of battling monsters, The Doctor and Clara need to discover the mystery that is happening in the train - a mummy that shows itself only to its potential victim, Nouse reports. Things began to unravel when The Doctor saw a machine that can extend someone's life and Clara meeting the daughter of the woman who died inside the train.
The Mummy or "The Foretold" is a mystery that continues to unfold as it claims another victim - this time one of the staff. According to the Den of Geek, as The Doctor investigates the case involving The Foretold, it was soon found out that the people inside the train can contribute in solving the mystery. It was found out later in the episode that the Orient Express is actually a science laboratory.
Another treat in "Doctor Who" Series 8.8 "Mummy on the Orient Express" is the cameo by Foxes - a famous British pop star, singing in the Orient Express. Although her singing did give more glamour to the scene, viewers were expecting her to act a little bit.
Frank Skinner - a self-confessed "Doctor Who" fan, also did a cameo in the episode and viewers are wondering if he's the one - the male assistant that the Doctor is tirelessly hoping and looking for.
Viewers can also see in the episode that Clara is moving further and further away from the Doctor. This turn of events happens to coincide with the rumors swirling around that Jenna Coleman is leaving "Doctor Who." According to The Independent, Coleman is being rumored to be leaving the show by December, though, no official statement has been issued as of yet.
